What: Amaya’s Shake & Bake Dance Festival
When: August 4 & 5 (Saturday & Sunday), 2007
Where: All workshops, festival performances & exhibits at:
MCM Elegante Hotel (near corner of University & Menaul)
Saturday Gala Show: South Broadway Cultural Center Theatre
Description:
An annual gathering of dancers and dance aficionados of Raks Sharqi, i.e, “belly dance” at the MCM
Elegante Hotel, ABQ, NM. A full weekend of dance classes in specialty subjects such as cane,
dance fan, drum solos, articulate hips and arm movements, sword balancing and more.
Over 75 dancers from around the nation will tour the Corn Dances, see a flamenco show, perform,
shop, study the latest in belly dance moves, culminating in a dance troupe competition on Sunday
night at 7 pm. The general public is invited to attend the S&B Festival, Sunday, 3 pm – 8 pm to see
non-stop dancing and shop and explore the exhibits. $5 donation at the door to benefit our animal
shelter. Children under 12 free.
The South Broadway Cultural Center will host the Saturday Gala concert, “Shake Your Hips
on Route 66!”, 8 pm. $15-$25 tickets.
